Frida Kahlo tee- F21 (L)
So today I finished my degree in Fine Art.
Three years ago I started this blog as I was finishing up my foundation degree, on a wave of self love and ambition, to continue to practise self love and acceptance in the face of taking a leap into a new, scary environment.
Now with the prospect of leaving a place I’ve made a home in, and leaving behind an experience I hope I won’t ever forget (for all it’s ups-and-downs), I keep thinking about what inspired me to make the choices I have in these past few years.
Two artists changed my life when back I was fifteen; Louise Bourgeois, and the amazing person on my t-shirt here, Frida Kahlo. They took me into a world of defiant creativity that I’ve been enamoured with ever since. Now at 21, I think back to how much I owe them both. For their passion and their politics Their feminism and their femininity. Their defiance, beauty and skill.
(a bonus shot of my lovely Frida-adorned belly in a accidental setting-up-the-camera shot)
thank you, Claire’s Accessories
Long time, no post! I’ve had a bit of a real month of it, looming deadlines and a death in the family. Hopefully getting back on it now, prepare thy eyeballs for posts coming soon.
In the meantime, check out my rad new rings i got from Claire’s today!
Jumper is from Voulez Vous (a concession at Dorothy Perkins) size M/L.
The notes make this really depressing as a guy reading this :(
Before I was even thirteen..
it’s why I stopped doing ballet at age 10. i wasnt thin like the other girls, i’d never have made it as a ballerina
8 years old :/
My mom put me on my first diet at 12. Probably before that.
my mum took me to the doctors at 14 to get a medical note so she could sign me up to WeightWatchers while i was under their age limit (16)
this was after years of nutritionist/diet appts to ascertain while i was fat, despite eating all the same food as the rest of my family (hint: it’s because i just fucking am fat) and after years of bullying starting around age 8.
16 is not an accurate age anymore (if it ever was) for becoming conscious of ones body. Rather, the state of diet culture and is so pervasive that it’s instinctual and unquestioned for many from early childhood.
