Jersey t-shirt with flocked cape - Henry Holland @ Debenhams, Jeans - Inspire @ New Look, Shoes - Evans
I have kind of a love/hate relationship with black clothes. On the one hand, I love black in the silly, artist sense of it being a deep, clean colour. And I love black clothes because they owe themselves to really cute little monochrome details, like the little flocked hearts on this top, that would look a bit cartoon-y in brighter colours.
On the other hand, though, black is the colour synonymous, for me, with fat shaming clothes and rhetoric. There’s of course the addage that black is ‘slimming’; it’s a safe colour and it doesn’t stand out, because we fats aren’t supposed to be visible in any colourful way.
Also, black is terrible to photograph! haha.
This ramble isn’t going anywhere specifically, I just find myself wondering about these things when I get dressed. What does this outfit say about me? If I wear black today, do I look like I want to look slimmer? Do I look like I’m ashamed of myself?
